Ron Edwards –
Activity Instructor/Group Leader – Marchants Hill
Ron says: I
decided to join PGL because I enjoy working outdoors and with young people. I
had previous experience coaching children’s football games. It was also a great
opportunity to meet new people and get away from a normal 9-5 style of job.
As an Activity Instructor/Group Leader, I’m responsible for
delivering activity session ranging from archery and orienteering to zip wire
and giant swing. I also work with groups by filling their free time with games,
taking them through meal times, liaising with teachers and generally organising
the group throughout their stay.
One of the best aspects of this job is seeing young people
achieve things they thought they never could, and knowing that you had a big
part to play in their success. It can be hard work but it’s also great fun.
With the introduction of Watersports at Marchants Hill this
year, I have recently gained my 2* Canoe and Kayak award. I have also
completed a Level 2 Health and Safety Award, and the Marchants Hill Aspiring
Senior Development Programme, in order to develop my skills and understanding
of the role of a Senior Member of staff.
