Company Profile - Royal Bank of Scotland

The world of banking is changing for the better, and RBS is at the forefront of those changes. We’ve redefined our business strategy, sharpened our customer focus, and are pulling out all the stops to continue to earn the confidence and trust of all our stakeholders, clients, shareholders and employees.

This is just the start and, as we look to the future, graduates and interns will have a crucial role to play.

Who are we?

Graduates joining RBS in 2011 have a unique and exciting opportunity to help re-engineer an organisation and be part of one of the biggest turnarounds in the banking industry. The business is transforming and is receptive to new ways of thinking, so there’s huge scope for graduates to make their mark and gain REAL and EARLY RESPONSIBILITY from day one

RBS is an authority in graduate recruitment. We are listed in the The Times ‘Top 100 Graduate Employers’ and The Times ‘Top 50 Where Women Want to Work’. RBS Retail Banking listed as No 10 in The Sunday Times '100 Best Companies To Work For' 2008

Career Opportunities

Across the group we offer over 30 graduate and intern programmes.  Why so many? Because the scale and scope of our work is such that no single programme could ever do our business justice.

If you’re highly numerate and good at thinking on your feet, then Global Banking & Markets – Trading could be the way to go.  If, on the other hand, you excel at building relationships, the Business & Commercial Banking, Private Banking & Advice or Retail Leadership could be an option for you.

Naturally, you’ll bring your own personality to RBS – and that’s why it’s important to choose a programme that suits your strengths and ambitions.  There may be options that you have not considered; others that you would have never consider; or one that you may have your heart set on.

That is not to say the programme choice you make will define your future at RBS; nothing could be further from the truth. But what each of these programmes will do is provide you with a starting point; a first step from which you can take your career in any number of directions. Whether you’re structuring deals, heading up teams, working with customers, developing new products or supporting colleagues across the business, your contribution will be recognized and your ambition will take you wherever you want to go.

Training and Development

We need ambitious high-performing graduates who want to grow and develop throughout their careers. To achieve and be successful, it’s important that you’re prepared to drive your own development. For our part we’ve created the perfect environment to grow.

As well as a bespoke development programme which focuses on the needs of your particular business area, we’ll help you cultivate key business skills, such as team working, project management, influencing, communicating and presenting. We’ll also encourage you to gain professional qualifications.

We have a phenomenal range of learning resources, including an online portal where you can manage your development, sign up for courses and access materials that will help your development.  You will also take part in our Talent Watch programme which will track your performance and potential to help you identify and build your career path.

What we look for

Graduates will need a 2:1 or 2:2 depending on programme beyond that we are looking for first class communication skills, a willingness to learn, flexible approach and a genuine interest in the programme area.
