Who are we?

Types of membership and how to join the CIPD

The majority of people join the CIPD to become recognised for their HR professionalism through professional membership – Associate member, Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow.

Professional membership 

Professional membership is achieved through CIPD study and upgrading after completing a CIPD qualification.

CIPD professional members are also able to use globally recognised designatory letters after their name to showcase their professional credentials: Assoc CIPD, Chartered MCIPD or Chartered FCIPD.

Student membership

If you’re studying a CIPD qualification you must join as a Student member to ensure you get recognition for your qualification towards professional membership.

Affiliate membership

If you want to access the benefits of CIPD membership straightaway you can join as an Affiliate.

Academic membership

This membership route recognises those whose expertise is in the thinking and knowledge of the HR profession e.g. HR lecturers or researchers.

Experience Assessment 

Experience Assessment is a way to achieve industry recognition for your HR achievements and benefit from professional membership without taking CIPD qualifications. This route is for those who have gained significant experience throughout their career in the HR field.
