Job Description

With the opportunity to work on projects typically ranging in value from £0.5million to £30million, this graduate role will be extremely varied and will offer the chance to build experience whilst developing your professional portfolio.

Some of the core responsibilities to the role are as follows:

Liaising with other professionals, technical suppliers and technicians.
Carrying out structural calculations for sub and super structure elements.
Use of and training in AutoCAD and Revit.
Preparing technical drawings and detail with guidance from the Associate Director/Senior Engineer and Project Engineer.
Attendance to site to carry out inspection visits with Associate Director/Senior Engineer and Project Engineer.
Attendance at progress/design meetings with an Associate Director.
Maintaining records and archives within Rolton’s project management systems.

The ability to take initiative as well as working within part of a team within appropriate authority levels is vital, and the candidate will be well motivated, innovative and career minded. As a multi-disciplinary practice, there is also a need to integrate and work with other engineering fields within the business.

In keeping with the level of this role the candidate will have a good academic knowledge of design principal (and design) standards relevant to common structural materials (e.g. steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber etc.) In addition, the candidate should have a good academic knowledge of forms of construction, type of foundation etc. The candidate should be able to carry out basic report writing.


Academically, we are looking for a proven academic record. The successful candidate will have an Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, with a Structural bias, or will have majored in a Structural Engineering subject.

Rolton Group invests heavily in the latest technology; chosen candidates will be computer literate and have an interest in the implementation of Revit applications of 3D design tools. As a self-motivated person you will demonstrate the potential to progress with the company, working with some of the world’s greatest businesses across a wide range of industry sectors. You will be expected to contribute your ideas and add value, and will be directly involved in projects from the outset, allowing you to make a difference from the moment your career with us begins.
