Introduction to company
Working with many of Europe’s largest supermarket chains and food retailers, ABP Food Group ensures quality beef is produced with full traceability, ‘from farm to fork’.
Contributing 1.3 billion euros to rural economies every year, ABP Food Group’s farmer network is vast. We recognise that the farmers who supply meat to us are vital partners in ensuring that the quality of our product is maintained and traceability is ensured.
In fact, we are so passionate about our farmers that we are renowned for paying our 35,000 farmer suppliers on the day of delivery, at strategically located abattoirs that minimise animal transport distances. Minimising our environmental impact is a cornerstone of the business, alongside sustainability and providing consistent quality.
The people that deliver upon this are undoubtedly our greatest asset, and we depend upon our people for the success of our Group. We are now looking for a driven, ambitious Operations Graduate to join the Group.
What is exciting about this role?
Your career at ABP will get off to an exciting and eventful start with a four week induction programme. During this programme you’ll get the chance to: undertake team building exercises, develop your lean manufacturing awareness, manage traceability, understand the procurement process and get to grips with technical engineering.
Continuing from this, you’ll be exposed to different areas of the business over the first 12 months, getting to know the ins and outs of each department. We will help you gain an understanding of the core processes within the meat industry by teaching you all about retail production, manufacturing and procurement, the effect of freezing meats and general operational running.
Moving into your second year, you’ll continue your professional learning by gaining experience in costing, business strategy, commercial development and people management, as well as covering modules in sustainability and supply chain management.
What’s also exciting is that we recognise you may have to relocate for this role and therefore, we provide an £8,000 relocation fund (split over two years). This enables you to move to the area without worry (available if you have to relocate further than 25 miles from home).
So what’s the role?
Your primary role will be to assist in the operational running of the business. This will include responsibilities such as; overseeing process flow, supporting commercial projects, investigating waste management and improving efficiencies where possible.
What do you need to demonstrate?
Academically, we are looking a 2:2 degree (or higher) from any discipline.
With strong communication skills and team working abilities, you will also have the following:
- Commitment and ambition
- Leadership potential
- A desire to learn and become an expert
- A great work ethic
- Ability to robustly plan and execute tasks
- Ability to manage relationships with a varied workforce
It is advantageous (but not essential) to have some agricultural experience (whether through placements, part-time work, university etc.)
Salary and Benefits:
We know how hard graduates work and what a substantial contribution they make to our business and because of this, we offer the people who join us a very attractive package.
- A starting salary of £20,000
- Up to a £5,000 salary increase after 12 months
- £8,000 relocation fund
- Performance based salary reviews
- Opportunities to complete professional qualifications
- Extensive training and development
